Clean Old Sperm Stains From Office Chair

Olof Palme, mysteries

25 years ago to the day, the Swedes learned late in the evening, as their prime minister had been assassinated by bullets. Very few people saw Olof Palme lying on the sidewalk Sveavägen, one of Stockholm's main avenues, almost deserted at that hour (before that showcase a photo at the corner of the street) .

This violent death has nevertheless marked an in-depth country who believed himself immune against such an act, it was nestled in the cocoon of the welfare state he had patiently woven. The misfires of the investigation, they have undermined confidence that the Swedes gave their authorities. They have also given rise to theories or spooky about the murder ... (Show Rendezvous with X, on France-Inter, takes few tracks here).
Until today, therefore, the case remains shrouded in mystery.
A year ago, I recounted here ( That night, an unknown ) how young I was called on duty that night had lived from 28 February to 1 March 1986. Today, I'll reproduce the article I wrote for Time , daily Switzerland - like another country "neutral" - where we keep an eye attentive to what is happening in Sweden. The article was published on this day of commemoration. I added some pictures drawn on canvas.

Previously, I recommend this audiovisual portrait rather eloquent ( "Kennedy Jacobin European citizen ... well ... high in the eyes piercing gray-blue Scandinavian which we find the equivalent in the reflection of Swedish steel ... patrician red ... ") produced by the ORTF and kept in the archives of the INA. As log Antenne 2 released the day after the crime.
I also point out a site offering speech and articles (in English) this figure of European social democracy. On the home page site, I recommend a short silent film shot in 8 mm Palme himself, during a visit to Algeria in autumn 1962, when he did that an employee of Tage Erlander, his mentor and predecessor as head of government.
From this trip, Palme later wrote "There I learned how important it was to support liberation movements" . He subsequently appeared in demonstrating against the Vietnam war and expressing his support for the new post-colonial regimes. Behind the scenes Yet Palme was anxious to spare the American government by maintaining a secret collaboration against the Soviet Union, according to books by historians and journalists (here the latest ) and who tarnish the image of a Palm cross of anti-American imperialism. Ah, Realpolitik, when you hold us ...

ARTICLE published in Le Temps :

Twenty-five years after his death, the riddle Olof Palme

February 28, 2011 This time, c 'was too much for Mårten Palme. The youngest son of the former Swedish prime minister could not let them say, without any proof that his father had been murdered by soldiers or policemen. That the person spreading through the media to advance this thesis, Leif G. W. Persson, a criminology professor and author of best-selling thrillers [ including one inspired by the murder ] , does not allow him to move anything, according to Palm junior. "His theory is unfounded! He falls into the same trap as others before him, looking for evidence that reinforces his own view of who could commit murder. "

This small settlement of accounts has caused a stir last week in Sweden, while kingdom commemorates the death of Olof Palme, February 28, 1986. It says a lot about the impotence of the kingdom to lighten the biggest case of his criminal history. For, despite considerable work, despite the assistance provided by foreign police forces, assassination of the figure of European social democracy has still not been elucidated.

A year ago, the Stockholm parliament amended the law that previously fixed at 25 years the statute of limitations for murder. In theory, the Swedish police can continue indefinitely to investigate until it flushes out the culprit. But it does succeed one day? 95% of Swedes do not believe, according to a recent survey published by the newspaper Svenska Dagbladet .

For many of them, the murderer has been identified ... and he died. Christer Pettersson, a marginal arrested in 1988, was recognized by Lisbeth Palme, the Prime Minister's wife, with whom she was walking to a movie, without a bodyguard when was shot in the street. Pettersson, who would have avenged a friend in prison, was sentenced to imprisonment. Later pardoned on appeal for lack of evidence. In addition, Lisbeth Palme was influenced by the publication of a photograph of the suspect before being confronted him.

The Supreme Court has definitively closed the case in 1998. Pettersson, unrepentant consumers of amphetamines, died six years later, not without having boasted of having committed the crime ... He is not alone. No fewer than 130 people confessed killing the officer, especially in the early years following the tragedy. Of mythomaniacs, concluded the police. It has not failed to work over the years: some 11 000 people were accused namely to have pulled the trigger.

On several occasions, the Swedes believed that the police, after an initial investigation for less winded, was finally on track. The assumptions made them travel in various places on the planet where we could sponsor the assassination. Palme had undertaken to mediate peace between Iran and Iraq were at war. He was trying to promote a "third voice" between East and West, on behalf of Sweden neutral considered too close to Moscow by some. It honnissait the apartheid South African, who paid her well.

Thus clashed several "tracks": the CIA - associated with right-wing Swedish police - the South African Police Service, the PKK (Kurdish pro-independence party in Turkey) dissatisfied with the monitoring its members in Sweden, etc.. As recently as January, the track was resurfaced in Yugoslavia who favor a magazine survey German Focus . Inconsequential so far.

"What the Swedish state apparatus could not handle such a case has shaken the Swedes and reduces their confidence in him" , advanced Kjell Östberg [ radio link, Swedish] a historian, author of a biography Palm. Consequently, the population has paid close attention to "revelations" made by private detectives more or less seriously. One of them said murder by smuggling diamonds another has accused members of the Palm family, etc.. The reward of 7.2 million Swiss francs, and promised to any conclusive evidence, still stands.

For police, the element that could revive the investigation was the discovery of the murder weapon, a Smith & Wesson .357 Magnum, according to ballistic tests. In 2006, such revolvers, long-sought, was found. Alas, it was too rusty to "talk". The four investigators' group Palme abandoning their mission without much conviction. "We must be realistic" , Stig Edqvist coward, its leader since 14.

What Is The Strongest Wood Bat?

Me, Boy Delirium

Roald Dahl

Gallimard Jeunesse
Collection Folio Junior
Translated from English by Janine Hedgehog
Illustrated by Quentin Blake
Released in November 2008 218 pages

6.70 EUR

Junior Novel From 10 years
Topics: Childhood, Nonsense, Humor, Autobiography

Back Cover: What happens when you catch a ratite? And when we simulate an attack of appendicitis? Have you ever smoked tobacco goat? You ever been wearing a costume that makes you look like a undertaker to go to school? Through the story of his adventures, discover a young Roald Dahl which is strikingly similar to the heroes of his books! Roald Dahl fondly remembers his childhood adventures and rich with emotion and humor to tell inimitable.
About the author: Roald Dahl, a Norwegian, was born in Wales in 1916. Despite the untimely death of his father and bad memories Residential, he had a happy childhood and easy. At seventeen years, dreaming of adventure, he moved to Newfoundland, then became a fighter pilot in the Royal Air Force during the Second World War. Encouraged by the author CS Forrester, he began writing short stories for adults. It is in 196 1 that starts in youth literature with James and the Giant Peach, imagined for his five children, whom he tells a new story every night. He knows his first big success with Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and, therefore, will not cease until his death in 1990, signing books that make you want to read million children. In his eyes, the young readership is the most demanding public. He also explained: "I try to write stories that grab the throat, stories that we can not let go. For if a child learns very early to love books, he has a huge advantage in life. "He says this requires" have p booked two fundamental characteristics of his eight years: the curiosity and imagination. " In 2005, Great Britain honored him by opening The Roald Dahl Museum and by creating a "day Roald Dahl" September 13, the day of his birth.

It with humor and tenderness that Roald Dahl recounts his childhood memories in this autobiographical novel tells the author but
defends himself:

"An autobiography is a book that we write to tell his own life and beyond, in general, any kind of tedious details. This book is not an autobiography. The idea I would never write such a book. Moreover, during all my younger years in school and shortly after, my life has been marred by incidents that I have never forgotten. None are very important, but each they gave me a strong impression that I never got it off my mind. Each of them, even after a lapse of
e time of fifty and even sixty years, has remained etched in my memory. I did not have to seek them out. It was enough to touch the top layer of my consciousness for them before finding them in writing. Some were funny. Some painful . Some unpleasant. For this reason, I suppose, that I remember them all so as acute. All are true. "

With humility and modesty , Roald Dahl recounts his early years marked by family memories, medical accidents, do stupid things after school ... All the heroes of Roald Dahl's children are taking their revenge on adults and through Me, Boy we can better understand why the adult is also frowned upon. It takes the form of a witch, a doctor, dentist, a school principal or even a supervisor, Roald Dahl gets his imagination in his memories of a little boy terrified by the evil adults. He tells us as
nt he was operated vegetations without anesthesia, and how he received the caning and off again, holding her buttocks with both hands! His fondest memories are of course those spent with his mother, his sisters and his grandparents in Norway. It tells the dramatic moments experienced by a family with a moving simplicity . Me, Boy is the book to be read to learn about this extraordinary author who has worked for so many children's literature. It is close. We laugh at his stupidity and his fun adventures. We feel compassion for the hardships he has faced so young. Roald Dahl knows how to create a complicity with his readers by entrusting us with his most intimate memories and most expensive. So with emotion that one emerges from this reading , still intact with this desire to find the mischievous hero of an author that you continue to forward e for generations .

Read in the context of a joint reading with Liyah . His ticket is
here and I'm off to read it.

Why My Friend Cant Stay Awake During The Day

"Secrets" of diplomats, 20 years after Gilles

not easy, the job of diplomat these days ... Your telegrams and other reports deemed to be confidential may land on the site Wikileaks or elsewhere. Internet and social networks mean that information - verified or not - runs so fast that your analysis might appear stale overnight. Even in dictatorships, in principle, very little open to the outside world, where once the diplomat had the advantage of being there, even when the Western media were not allowed. And then there is the politicization some of your leaders, ambassadors appointed to represent less a state that President and (try to) correct any errors in controlling the latter.

Interestingly, the yardstick then, to read the reports laid by Swedish diplomats about the Baltic republics of the USSR, when they emancipated from Moscow to regain their freedom. The Swedish government has decided to publish them with 30 years ahead of the law, and at the 20th anniversary of the return of Baltic independence. This reconquest was not an easy task and if it went ahead without great bloodshed, it was, too, its share of tension and drama. This video shows, performed by the Latvian Juris Podnieks and his team in a (vain) attempt to regain control by OMON, police Soviet, January 21, 1991 in Riga:

Twenty years.
I have the impression that there was much longer. The Baltic countries have changed considerably since then, deep and surface. Working conditions also: watch digital copies of the Swedish diplomatic notes typed on typewriters antediluvian, it returns us to the era before the Internet, before cell phones (I'm glad to have known that time in my early days in journalism, even if the end was close).

admit having, for now, read a small part some 90 documents - in Swedish - is now available to the public . Having traveled some, I'm not sure of the real interest they represent for me, while I have no time to even half of what I want. In addition, the proposed method of reading is not easy. It was thought in the Internet age, it is sometimes inconvenient or inappropriate. The digitization of old typed reports tend to make more blurred characters, I assure you: do the test yourself (unless my view has fallen!). * * *

Rather than break me eyes, I'm going back into a book written by one of the Swedish diplomats stationed in then USSR. Dag Sebastian Ahlander was Consul General in Leningrad during these critical years. Since 1992, he recounted in a book its field missions, the climate of suspicion , travels and his meetings in Tallinn, Riga and Vilnius to decrypt the outcome of the standoff, a priori imbalances that had hired independent pendants with Moscow. To write his book Spelet om Baltikum ( game around the Baltic , Norstedts), Ahlander drew on the wealth of information he passed to his superiors in the form of telegrams. The same, at least in part, as those made public (so very readable ...) by the Swedish government. Another diplomat, consul in Riga from 1989 to 1991, also largely reproduced in a book the raw material he had accumulated on site (Lars Freden, Förvandlingar , ed. Atlantis, which was followed by another on the period 1991-1994, cf. this article in Swedish).

From all this, Stockholm refrained from speaking with his initiative. In a statement , the Ministry of Foreign Affairs evokes "a lot of diplomatic relations remained secret until then, from the period drama of the fall of the Soviet Union" . After all, it's fair game, even if one would rather expect this kind of practice and rhetoric on the part of newspapers and publishing houses ...

Visiting Riga a week ago, Fredrik Reinfeldt, Swedish Prime Minister ( left in the photo curator actually) , has used the same method to tout the release of archives "secret" Swedish. Dombrovskis, his Latvian counterpart, was apparently unaware of the existence of books of the two diplomats. He praised the initiative as constituting Swedish "a major step in deepening our knowledge and the process was ongoing at the time" . And it is quite possible, indeed, said that diplomatic notes have historical value for researchers working on the subject. Most interesting are they now available? Not sure ... For Stockholm has kept an unknown number in her cupboards. Again, it's fair game. A little transparency okay, all the transparency, good damage. * * *

Later, during the official visit, Fredrik Reinfeldt held a speech (in ang-lais) more on the ELO-religious recipe "economic success" Swedish to students at the Stockholm School of Economics Riga (long-financed by the authorities). Once the applause exhausted, I met Carl Bildt, the chief diplomat of the kingdom, to trays of petits fours. Why be "declassified" - oh the anglicism - Swedish archives? Answer: "The time was dramatic: the end of the USSR ... Sweden, as a neighboring country, followed closely what was happening in the Baltics. The reports sent by our diplomats were highly significant and of great quality. make public today is our contribution to the writing of a history fair in those years. "

20 years ago, Carl Bildt was not yet familiar scenes of diplomatic meetings between "senior" leaders of this continent, even in this world. He was beanpole who, as head of the Conservative Party, led the opposition "bourgeois" with the hope of dislodging the Social Democrats from power. In autumn 1991, he succeeded at the age of 42 years. In his role as prime minister, he was particular to manage the Swedish policy vis-à-vis the new Russia of Boris Yeltsin and the Baltic which, it still does not remember, had to tolerate the presence of elements of Russian army (ex-Red Army) until 1994.

Carl Bildt was also forced to work to make people forget about some unfortunate decisions or other Swedish politicians against the Baltic states. Stockholm was one of the few Western capitals to recognize their annexation by the USSR during the second world war. Much later, during a visit to the USSR in the fall of 1989, the then Minister (Social Democratic) business, Sten Andersson fire, had the misfortune to say that Estonia was " not busy " and activists Baltic proindépendantistes constituted only a" minority " (it would explained in his memoirs, extracts of which here in Swedish).

In the joyous atmosphere that prevailed cocktail at the Stockholm School of Economics in Riga, I remembered Carl Bildt these less stellar for his State: "It should not be very easy for you [ we are familiar terms in Swedish] at the time, go behind and pick up the pieces ... "
Bildt lowered his head a little - it's bigger than me - and said, planting his blue eyes on mine: "It was a challenging period ..." .
